Sanodye® Brown R Homogeneous, water soluble dyestuff for the adsorptive dyeing of anodised aluminium.
Sanodye® Brown R is notable for its interesting reddish brown shade and its technical reliability in application.
Only recommended for interior use.
1. Dye-specific Data
Commercial form: fine granules Chemical character: Azo-dyestuff, unmetallized Density: 550 g/l Solubility in water: 300 g/l at 20°C Storage stability: practically unlimited, in closed original containers Ecotoxicological data: see safety data sheet.
2. Application conditions
Concentration, dyeing temperature and time
Concentration Dyeing temperature Dyeing time Bright shades 0.05 - 0.2 g/l 25 - 60°C 10 - 20 min Medium shades 0.3 - 0.8 g/l 25 - 60°C 10 - 20 min Dark shades 1.0 - 3.0 g/l 25 - 60°C 20 - 30 min
pH: 5,5 ± 0,5 Buffer: The dyebaths are preferably buffered with 8 g/l sodium acetate trihydrate + 0,4 ml/l acetic acid for pH 5.6 Water quality: preferably deionized Sealing: preferably with Anodal® ASL (one or two stage).
3. Setting the Dyebath
When setting the dyebath, care must be taken that the dyestuff is well dissolved. Dissolve the dye preferably with hot water (80°C) in a separate container (approx. 5 parts water to 1 part dye). Then this mother solution will be added to the dyebath while stirring. 5. Special remarks
- Unsealed dyeings are virtually unstrippable in diluted nitric or sulphuric acid. They can be stripped in nitric acid 10 % + potassium permanganate 5 %. After the treatment in Potassium permanganate, neutralization must be carried out for 1-5 min in a sodium bisulphite 5 % solution.
- The dyebaths are sensitive to aluminium; anodized objects should therefore be rinsed thoroughly before dyeing.
- Shading : Sanodye® Brown R can be used not only as a straight colour for red-brown tones but also as an interesting combination element, e.g. together with Sanodye® Golden Orange RLW for gold shades.
- Prevention of mould formation : An addition of an antimicrobial product can inhibit mould formation for a long time. We recommend the addition of Nipacide CI 15 (See Technical Information) 25 – 50 mg/l.
6. Disposal of the dyebaths
Spent dyebaths can be readily precipitated with Anodal® WT-1 Liquid. The method is described in detail in the Technical Information bulletin for Anodal® WT-1 Liquid.
The table below shows the additions required for precipitating Sanodye® Brown R.
